My Review:

This novel takes all things fantasy, vampires, adventure and creates a truly wonderful story. The characters are tangible, the relationships are well thought out, and the world building is a 10/10. I could vividly see all of the scenes in this book and I understood the characters. I couldn’t ask for more in a fantasy novel. As far as tropes go it includes: enemies to lovers, slow burn, forced proximity, trials, and strained father-daughter relationship!

Spicy Scene - Part 5 Interlude, Page 253

Skip after They fell hard and fast, and the young woman loved the rush.

  • This interlude describes an instance in Oraya’s past with her, only, previous lover.

  • He was a vampire and she was human, and he lost control. He began biting her and forcing her to comply to his wants.

  • The interlude’s purpose is to highlight a key point in Oraya’s past that is likely significant in the coming chapters.

Light Steamy Scene - Chapter 34, Page 284

Skip after The sheets would be soaked by the time we were done.

  • Oraya peers into Raihn’s room and imagines killing him, but there is some sensual detailing involved in her description.

Heavy Steamy Scene - Chapter 38, Page 318

Skip after The venom could not possibly have worked that fast.

  • Raihn and Oraya’s relationship shifts after this scene because she surrenders herself fully, allowing him to drink from her blood to save him.

  • Raihn ensures Oraya is safe and in control by giving her a dagger aimed towards his heart.

  • The moment is heartfelt but becomes steamy due to the vampire venom.

Heavy Spicy Scene - Chapter 44, pg. 365

Skip at the beginning of Chapter 44

  • There is no substance to these scenes other than Oraya and Raihn’s intimacy reaching the next level.

  • This scene from my understanding is meant to represent the character’s losing control in the face of death in the following day’s trial.

  • Furthermore, this scene highlights the characters’ desperation for each other finally releasing the tension built throughout the novel.
